Makana's 4th Birthday!
The birthday girl! She said that she does indeed feel bigger - her legs were getting longer! Makana wanted those trick candles that relight!
Kanoa's Changes during June, his fifth month
We are so lucky to have Kanoa! He is such a joy to hold and be with. All of us love playing with him and we're all captivated by his smiles.
He can now turn over from back to belly and belly to back like a pro. In fact, he can roll over and over to get where he wants to go. He can also lay on his belly, push up on his hands with arms straight and sort of slide himself backwards to move. It is not safe to just leave him on the bed, even for a minute. It takes planning for me to take a shower if he is up or on the verge of waking. (Thank goodness I am a quick shower taker for the most part!) Li, who is usually up before Katie, tends to play with Kanoa on the bed while I take a quick shower and peek out many times to be sure Kanoa is still in the center of the bed and away from the edges. We pack the sides with pillows and blankets to be sure there is a high ridge that he can't roll over. So far, so good.
Kanoa's first (his bottom right tooth) came in much more and I think it hurts him quite a bit. Been giving him frozen wash cloths and (clean) fingers to chew on to help. He has bit on the nipple a couple of times, but comes off quick when he feels me tense up and yelp "ah!" in pain. Usually he just nurses regularly (without biting) thank goodness. And if I am ever questioning whether he might bite or nurse, I sing a song that I sang when I was in the same situation with the other kids...the "Gentle, gentle, nursie-nur song."
Well, he just woke up and nursed just fine and I had better sign off! Love that full/satisfied/content look in his eyes when he's filled physically and emotionally.
Oh, he went to Lake Alford for the first time yesterday and I dipped his feet in the water. I just held him the whole time except when we sat on the boogie board to nuse once. He's been to Birch Pt St Park twice. Sometimes I call him Kano, Mr. K or say "Who's my Lovie?!!" in that voice that Julie Andrews uses in the Eloise movies.
And is he ever a drooler! Have to change his shirts often.

6/22/09 - Rosie and Matt and da boys are off to London for the summer!
One day (6/25), Li and Makana made a special doggie tent. Here are the sleeping dogs and a photo of the tent.

6/29/09 - Here is Makana and my horse pen. I am consciously spending more time with Makana as she seems to need more one one one time....well, sometimes I have Kanoa with me too, so it is not quite one on one time, but just more time playing with Makana! It is all good and we both like it! Sometimes I wish I could spend even more time with her like I did with Katie, but I am so glad we have our larger family and wouldn't trade that for anything!!

May Happennings
Katie created this art online and printed it out. Our printer was very low on ink, so it didn't come out that colorful. But if you can read the words, they make me feel so grateful for Katie and for what she appreciates. It is nice to be loved!! :)

5/8/09 - Michelle, Jewel and Charles visited. The boys, Kana, Michelle and I enjoyed time outside while Katie and Jewel got dolled up. They shut their eyes and put make-up on each other (a fun game Jewel played with Jessica and showed Kate) Here's the result! Bella! 
Erin came over (friend and neighbor from across the street) and caught the first frog of the season! Yeah Erin!! Go, Erin, go!

Here's Erin and Nick Doran and our family outside sword fighting and catching frogs. This was the day that Nick and Katie had that sword battle!
Kana put the frog in the pool for a short time.5-12-09 - Monday - Kirk, Zach and Luke visited. Kanoa liked Kirk playing with him. The kids played in and out. Katie and Zach went for a scooter/bike ride. Luke enjoyed playing "raft wars" on the computer. Kana liked hide and seek until she skinned her knee. Kirk suggested a book about bread making which the library system has and an audio book called "Where the Red Fern Grows."
At 5:30-6:30pm, Li had coached-pitched little league baseball (we missed last week). He got a hit and ran to first base. It was nice to see other families there that we knew. Li really liked it.
Daddy does alot
Li and I were up from 4am to about 5:30/5:45ish this morning. He had a stomach ache and then he was afraid to go back to sleep for a while because last night he watched Sarah Landon and the Paranormal Hour.
When we woke up this morning I said I felt bad for Daddy because he didn't get as much sleep as us and I mentioned that maybe we should try to go to bed earlier tonight. Li said Daddy does alot of things: he mows the yard, goes food shopping, makes food, and goes to work all day. He really does alot.
I thought that was pretty cool that he had that realization.
Later this day I was trying to make something in the kitchen and asked Li to help me with something. He sincerely said, "I would love to, but a good part of the movie we're watching is coming up and I don't want to miss it. I love you!" And he went back to the living room. Glad he was so honest. I understoood and smiled to myself.
